Merdeka Square (Malay: Dataran Merdeka) is a square (Independence Square) located in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. It is situated in front of the Sultan Abdul Samad Building. It was formerly known as the Selangor Club Padang and was used as the cricket green of the Selangor Club (now the Royal Selangor Club).
This is the historical place where the Union Flag was lowered and the Malayan flag was raised for the very first time at the struck of midnight of 31st August 1957. From then on, Merdeka Square has been the venue for the annual Merdeka Parade (National Day Parade).
It is accessible via Masjid Jamek LRT station, Ampang Line LRT
