Barley water drink is refreshing and helps your body
replenish well. It helps to stay hydrated and cool in the hot weather. Barley
water is often flavoured with lemon juice to give it a tangy twist.
Barley is a grain commonly found in beverages,
breads and various regional cuisines in the country. Barley, as a whole grain,
is an important source of dietary fibre, vitamins, and minerals that are not
found in refined grains.
There are many benefits of barley which helps better
cardiovascular health, losing weight, antioxidant properties and many more.
Ingredients:
Barley (pearl barley) – 100gm
Rock sugar – 100gm
Gingko Nuts – 80gm
2,000 ml water
Step by Step:
1. Wash and drain barley until water runs clear.
2. Boil barley and water in a pot.
3. Reduce heat to a simmer, cover and cook until barley is soft and
tender, about 45 minutes.
4. Add sugar & gingko nuts and then increase the heat to medium for
a while.
5. Stir until all sugar has melted. You can increase the amount of sugar
if you like sweeter drink.
6. Let to cool at room temperature.
7. Serve the drink hot or cold. Some like to add a squeeze of lime or
lemon for extra taste.
